Lori Gaynor-Animation Blog Post

"Brain Divided"

This short had the music and mixed the emotions in well. The faster music went along with the more chaotic scenes well. The colors the "brain" went along with the character's personalities. Red we usually see as a crazier/mad side, while blue tends to be more calm.

Early Animation

The music in this played very well with each of the animation examples. It was very happy-go-lucky throughout the films which matched the scenes. Some of them were fairly easy to see how they were created, while others were a bit more complex.

Megalomaniac

This is probably the creepiest animation I have ever seen, but I believe that is this particular person's style. The very eerie music along with the skeleton characters really help set the mood. The only bad thing I would have to say is the plot line I found a bit difficult to understand.

Talking Blocks:Command Blocks

This little short was cute and the emotions displayed went well with the scene and the music. The music in the film gets quicker as the scene becomes more intense. The original scene is bright and happy, but once trouble starts it gets darker which increases the anxiety with the red color and faster music.

A Fox Tale

The music played a large part in this short. At first it was elegant and slow, to go with the sly fox/woman, but as the scenes grew more intense, so did the music. It was silent in the more dramatic scenes. When the characters got angry, the scene grew much darker with the thunderstorm. Overall I thought it was a good short film.

Lori Gaynor- Movie Trailer posts

Secretariat Trailer

This is a trailer to one of my favorite movies. I enjoyed watching this trailer because I like that it gives you the feeling of excitement through the flashes and music while the horse is racing. I also like that the clips used give you a little insight to each of the main characters and their personalities and allows you to get an accurate preview of the movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean Trailer

This trailer right from the start gives you an eerie feeling through the wave effect, the voices talking and the gold colors. Throughout the trailer the mood remains the same which depicts the movie quite well. The dark colors, the moonlight/graveyard type feel adds to that effect. There are small bits of excitement with the sword fight scenes built up through the flashes and the music.

Bad Grandpa Trailer

The Bad Grandpa trailer really lightens the mood through the colors in the opening scene. It's a bright sunny day and the scene itself is on the funny side. The flashes used reflect the scenes well. Throughout the trailers it's brighter scenes, and there are also many scenes with crashes that grab at peoples' reactions which is what the whole movie is about.

Dreamer Trailer

I like in this trailer that it starts of very dark and dreary and then by the end of it, it focuses more on the funny side and gets brighter. The colors were very dark, scenes were very depressing looking for most of the trailer. The only thing I would change would be to focus more on the brighter sides of the movie a little bit quicker. I like how it was focused on family and would have liked to see a little more interaction of the happier scenes between them.

Max Trailer

I recently saw this movie and the trailer is what originally drew me into it. I like how the dark slow flashes reflected the mood of the movie. It grabbed the tender love between the boy and the dog, even with the loud fireworks scene, it still showed the bond between both. I also really liked how it lightened the mood at the end of the trailer by showing some of the funnier scenes and they added the faster music to go along with the fast paced scenes.

josh-viewbooks

Temple University's school of the arts has a nice viewbook online. I like the use of full page images with text over them and the pattern used throughout.

The Art Academy of Cincinnati designed their viewbook well. The main feature of this design I like is the consistency of the blue shapes in the layout. It keeps the design easy to read and navigate with your eyes.

Moore College has a viewbook with some good and bad features. I like the full page images and quotes, but i do not think the way the red is used as a sort of highlighter in the beginning. I find it effective to differentiate headings, but do not like its aesthetic when used in sentences.

The University of the Arts used images effectively, but makes heavy use of colored text that is underlined, which tends to read as web links in the age of technology. This is somewhat interactive of the designs, with a clickable TOC, animations on page turn, and a navigation panel.

Brandies University had my favorite viewbook. The links on each page would flash highlight when you open the page. The blue color is used nicely throughout. There was a nice mix of image grids and full page images and an overall solid design.

Tamara's Viewbooks

Smith College Viewbook
I like this viewbook especially because of the color pallete and the pull quotes. I also like the large amount of pictures. It makes the viewbook look inviting.

Lasell College
On my computer this viewbook had moving parts and I like the interactivity and how the titles are links and direct you to the right page. It makes it easier to find information.

Amherst College
This viewbook is also beautiful with the large quality photos. However the words are small and hard to read. The overall layout is done well including the alphabet to give you information. This blog also shows a lot of student interaction and activity which the student would like to see.

Syracuse College
With this viewbook I felt that there was too much information on each page and I felt a bit overwhelmed.

Tulsa College
I got a lot of inspiration with this viewbook. I definitely like the bold colors and the big headings. It makes it easier to find what you're looking for. The particular page that I like is the facts page where they have the arrows to lead you around the page.
