Designer, Dare to Experiment
As designers, we often face the same kind of commissions. However, the internet and specifically websites have the power to be used as a creative and expressive medium. Looking at a website as an artistic medium will broaden your limits and encourage creativity. Ultimately, it will make you better in everyday commercial design.
Websites are generally used to sell, to inform and to entertain. Whenever you work with clients, you often face limits you must keep in mind. A particular style, perhaps linked to current trends in web design, a limited budget, certain features that have to be included on the website and harsh deadlines are just a few examples of challenges developers often face.

Tamara Midterm Post
For my midterm project I created an advertisement for my church. I have clouds flying across the sky and the dancing trees. I Oslo added a beating heart that gets larger and larger and then explodes, and our logo slowly fades into the screen. Overall I really liked how it turned out. Check it out in the google drive folder :).

The animation I created was for Medusa Club in Elgin. This club is booked often as the venue for Chicago dubstep shows which i frequently attend. I redesigned the logo they sometimes use, which is medusa goddess figure with power cords instead of snakes, in illustrator then imported it into animate. I had trouble figuring out what type of tween to use because I was thinking of the animation I wanted as motion rather than shape shifting, since I wanted the width of the cords to remain constant. I ended up using shape tweens for the cords and motion tweens for the plugs to create a growing and shrinking snake-like appearance. Feel free to check out the animation in the google folder.

Midterm Project Post
My animation was very simple since this is very new to me. I was originally going to do a fish swimming for the Shedd Aquarium, but with the short deadline I adjusted it to do a dolphin for the dolphin show at Brookfield Zoo. I created the Dolphin, the water drops and the water spout in Illustrator and imported it to Animate. The Dolphin was left untouched while the water spout and the water drops were made with a motion tween. I used the transform tool to change the size and rotation of the water drops and skewed the water spout slightly. I also inserted keyframes to highlight the text to go along with when the water spout went up and down. The Dolphin show runs at Brookfield Zoo daily at 11:30am and 2:30pm.
Create a Video for MY MORAINE!
I wanted to let you know about a new project the library is doing this semester. It's called My Moraine, and it's a digital year book. We are asking students to submit short videos about their experiences on campus, things that have made an impact on them over the course of the past year. We will compile the videos into a single presentation that will be displayed in the library during the week of April 25th, with a deadline to submit by April 8th.
Students can create a video in any way that they want (Including submitting a Snapchat video). There is no template to follow. We'd like to get a genuine snapshot of what our students have been up to and experiencing over the past year.
I'd like to ask for your help in promoting the project on campus. It's a cool opportunity for students to be creative and also talk about Moraine Valley. I've attached a flier that you can feel free to forward to your students that has more details about the project. Mentioning it in class would also be a big help!
As always, librarians are here to help! We can help students capture video, edit the video, and everything in between. You or your students can contact me:
by email: matthewsd29@morainevalley.edu,
by phone: 708-608-4147
or just dropping by my office: L234 (Right next to the media lab)
Thanks for your time, and please let me know if you have any questions!

Temple of Dendur’s Lost Colors Brought to Life at the Met
Temple of Dendur’s Lost Colors Brought to Life at the Met
By JOSHUA BARONE, February 1, 2016
As depicted in popular culture, ancient Egypt is awash with the color beige. A trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art would seem to reflect that notion: The Temple of Dendur, with its weatherworn sandstone, could fit in naturally with the earth tones of “Aida” or “The Mummy.”
But
Egyptologists know that this temple, like many others of the ancient
world, was painted with vivid colors and patterns. In “Color the
Temple,” a marriage of research and projection-mapping technology,
visitors to the Met can now glimpse what the Temple of Dendur may have
looked like in its original, polychromatic form more than 2,000 years
ago.
The Met’s MediaLab
has installed a projector that fills in the temple’s carvings with
color. Through March 19, one section of the structure’s south side is on
view: a scene of the Roman emperor Augustus, dressed as a pharaoh and
making an offering to the deities Hathor and Horus. Because the sun
would wash out the projector’s light (the gallery has floor-to-ceiling
windows), the scene is illuminated on Friday and Saturday evenings, when
the Met offers extended hours.

F216 Adobe Update
Hello Everyone,
Just a quick note regarding our Adobe Animate issue we faced in F216.
Adobe Animate is indeed part of the Creative Cloud. There was a licensing issue that occurred when the computers were re-imaged the week before. We will run the trial version for this week and then the computers will be re-imaged during Spring Break to resolve the issue.
Thank you for your patience while we looked into the matter.
All my Best,
Chris

Tamara's Animation Shorts
Billy's Balloon
I like this short film because of its simplistic drawings. This makes it easier to make multiple scenes because the same expression is used through the whole scene.
"Trapped in the drive thru"
I really like this one because of the words spoken in this short goes to the beat of the music. This short also uses simple shapes and vectors keeping the characters the same. I also like how when they are in the car or mad, they get larger than the person they are yelling at.
"Tone Deaf"
This is a CGI short and I like the playfulness of it and the textures/shades of colors that they added into the leaves and the trees to give it that 3D effect. WHen she gets into the dubstep part, they use brighter neon colors. They also made the characters shake and jump to show the loud and heavy beat.
"Tamara Short Film"
The message in this one is really because of the message. You cannot really tell that she is deaf until the ending. But this one also has the nice shades of color. In all the animated shorts i enjoy how each artist has their own style.
"Silly Symphony"
This one is an old time disney short. You can really tell that this one is a drawing because it has the various shades of gray. There's just something about the old fashioned animations that I like. In this short you can tell that the scenes stay the same because the trees are always in the same spot creating less work.

Tamara's Movie Title Sequence
"Up"
I like this title sequence because it touches on parts of the movie and the journey that Carl and Russel took. I also like the font because its fancy and elegant and goes along with the music. This title sequence perfectly fits the movie because just by seeing this you can sort of get a feel of what will happen in the movie.
"Monsters Inc"
I choose this one because first off this is one of my favorite Disney movies. This title sequence is my very favorite. Throughout the sequence this old time sort of tin pan alley theme is carried through, with the music and the door graphics. I noticed how the doors and parts of the words moves with the music.
"The Incredibles"
This one uses alot of gradients which gives more interest and edge to the sequence. The music definetely leads you to know that this is an action movie and with the "pow" effects and sounds. The scene has light colors when the music goes softer. The text and the scenes are intertwined in how they move and balance around each other.
"Life of Pi"
I posted this one because I wasn't really a big fan of it. Sure they had the orange colors, the indian music and the tiger but it didn't tell much about the movie or what the plot was.

I like this movie sequence because it combines realistic scenes
with pen and ink drawings. Which is reflective of the time that this movie was
set it. The music is quick and mysterious giving the viewers of what genre of
movie this is.
